New Vexed Fishing Cast Iron Lures – Built for the West Coast

The all-new Vexed Cast Iron has landed at TackleWest, and this isn't just another casting metal.
Developed by Pwilly after decades of land-based fishing along the rugged west coast of Australia, the Cast Iron has been designed from the ground up to tackle the exact conditions WA anglers face — long casts, deep water, rough rock ledges and some seriously powerful fish.
Vexed set out to build a casting metal that delivered in every department: casting distance, action, realistic baitfish patterns and durability. The result is the new Cast Iron.
Why Zinc?
One of the biggest differences between the Cast Iron and a traditional casting metal is its construction.
Rather than using lead, Vexed has opted for zinc, producing a tough lure designed to handle repeated punishment around rocks as well as attacks from aggressive, toothy species.
For land-based anglers, durability matters. Casting onto shallow reef, bouncing lures through rock ledges and dealing with mackerel, tailor and other toothy predators can quickly destroy ordinary metals.
The Cast Iron has been built with exactly this type of fishing in mind.

Designed to Cast
When you're fishing the WA coastline, sometimes the difference between getting the bite and missing out is simply being able to reach the fish.
The Cast Iron has been shaped specifically to deliver serious casting distance, allowing anglers to punch casts beyond reef edges, into bait schools and across deeper water.
Whether you're chasing salmon from the beach, tailor from the rocks or trying to reach tuna and mackerel busting up beyond the ledge, the Cast Iron is designed to get into the zone.
Two Different Specs
Rather than trying to make one lure do everything, Vexed has developed the Cast Iron in two purpose-built configurations.
Cast Spec
The Cast Spec is made for covering water quickly.
Designed for long casts and rapid retrieves, it's fitted with a rear treble hook to maximise hook-up rates when fish are chasing and striking a lure at speed.
This is the model we'd be reaching for when targeting species such as:
- Tuna
- Mackerel
- Bonito
- Australian salmon
- Tailor
- Kingfish
- Cobia
Cast it long, get it moving and cover water.
Shore Jigging Spec
The Shore Jigging Spec takes the Cast Iron in a different direction.
Fitted with a front assist hook and rear single hook, it's designed for anglers working deeper water from rock ledges and steep drop-offs.
Instead of only concentrating on fish feeding near the surface, the Shore Jigging Spec allows you to work the lure throughout the entire water column.
Let it sink towards the bottom and work it back with lifts, jigs and pauses, or speed it up when pelagics move through higher in the water.
That opens up opportunities on everything from snapper and coral trout near the bottom to kingfish, tuna and mackerel above them.
Australian Baitfish Patterns
Vexed has also put plenty of work into the finishes.
Rather than relying on generic colours, the Cast Iron range features ultra-realistic baitfish patterns inspired by species found in Australian waters.
Combined with the lure's action and flash, they're designed to closely represent the bait our predators are already accustomed to feeding on.
Made for WA Fishing
This is probably what we like most about the Cast Iron.
It hasn't been designed overseas and then adapted to Australian fishing. It's a lure developed from decades of experience fishing the west coast of Australia.
From casting metals off Perth beaches to shore jigging remote rock ledges in the north-west, the Cast Iron has been designed around the type of fishing WA anglers actually do.
Whether you're chasing salmon and tailor locally or heading north for mackerel, tuna, cobia, coral trout and big kingfish, there's a Cast Iron setup to suit.
