The Power Trip game rod range is engineered to be a deadly fish-fighting tool. Each rod is built on a blank that’s easy to fish, featuring a smooth-loading tip action that transitions into a powerful lower section—allowing anglers to confidently lean into heavier drags when fighting hard-pulling fish.
The ShortSwitch is a bold, contemporary spin rod design. Developed primarily for rapidly deploying and positioning a hooked bait in front of marlin or tuna, it is equally effective when trolling lures or baits, either live or rigged. This versatility makes it a highly capable tool for modern gamefishing techniques.
The blank is constructed from advanced blended graphite, producing a rod that is light in the hand yet exceptionally robust. Power delivery is ideally suited to 24kg and 37kg line classes, providing the strength required for heavy drag settings without sacrificing balance or control.
At 6’0”, the ShortSwitch is purpose-built for fast, precise bait deployment into the wake while remaining short enough to stay user-friendly when fighting fish under heavy load. The signature Power Trip blank design features a forgiving, easy-loading tip, while the lower half of the rod holds substantial reserve power—ready to engage once the rod loads and the power is truly “tripped.”
The one-piece blank construction maximises strength and durability while maintaining a light, responsive feel.
The handle section is designed to be boat-friendly across a wide range of rod holders, with reel height positioned for comfort for anglers of varying sizes. At the butt end, an alloy gimbal fitting securely locks the rod into a holder or gimbal belt. The hard-wearing slick butt synthetic rear grip ensures smooth, reliable movement in and out of rod holders, even when under load.
A Fuji reel seat with a longer LD locking hood allows easy tightening of large spin reels, while an alloy extension accommodates the larger reel feet commonly used in game fishing setups.
The fore grips feature Ian’s original split-grip design in x-hard blue Camoufish EVA. This innovative layout offers multiple functional advantages:
-
A shorter grip near the reel seat for general handling
-
A longer fighting grip for higher hand placement to reduce leverage during heavy fights
-
A gap between grips for positive control during hook-sets
-
Improved handling when positioning the rod into a gimbal belt
-
An easy option for attaching webbing if a harness is required
All grips are custom-shaped for fish fighting and finished with gun-metal alloy winding checks, with all other handle components trimmed in matching gun-metal alloy separators.
The guide train features Fuji Slim Ring SiC guides in KW frame style, including an extra-large stripper guide. This setup delivers tangle-free performance, smooth line flow when free-spooling or under load, excellent knot clearance for all conventional knot types, and reduced line friction through SiC ceramics. Stainless steel frames are finished in the latest shiny grey plating for durability and a refined appearance.
Recommended line class: 24kg – 37kg
