How a Pulley Rig Works
During retrieval, the weight of the hooked fish pulls the sinker upward through the pulley action. This can help lift the sinker clear of rocks, reef and uneven ground while keeping the trace streamlined for casting.
Basic Rigging
- Run the main rig body through the pulley swivel.
- Attach the hook trace to the fixed swivel eye.
- Connect the sinker section to the moving rig-body end.
- Use a suitable bait clip when building a clipped-down surf rig.
- Wet and test all knots before fishing.
Match the remaining rig components and leader strength to the target species and casting load; the finished rig is only as strong as its weakest component.
