Puffin Crank 36mm Big Bodied Crankbait
The Puffin Crank is a compact yet bold 36mm big-bodied crankbait designed to target larger, opportunistic fish in shallow water and stirred-up conditions. Built with a distinctive square-cut bib, this lure dives to approximately 2.2 metres while creating maximum sand and mud disturbance — an effective trigger when fish are feeding by vibration and scent rather than sight.
A standout feature of the Puffin Crank is its unique bib-suspending posture. When paused on the bottom, the tip of the bib rests on the substrate with the lure’s head angled down and tail elevated. This positioning provides full hook exposure while helping reduce weed pickup and minimise bottom snagging, allowing anglers to fish confidently across sand, mud, and light structure.
Internally, the lure is fitted with three free-range rattle beads that produce a pronounced acoustic presence. Although the rattle is noticeable in hand, the Puffin Crank is specifically engineered for ultra-slow presentations, enabling anglers to crawl the lure along the bottom while maintaining a strong audible attraction.
The lure excels in challenging environments such as windy conditions, strong tidal flow, stirred water, and tannin-stained rivers — situations where its vibration, bottom disturbance, and unfamiliar rattle draw fish in from a distance.
Recommended technique:
For shallow water, hold a high rod tip and perform an extremely slow retrieve using the rod to crawl the lure along the bottom. Incorporate short, sharp rips, wind up slack, and repeat — similar to a drop-shot drag presentation — to create subtle bursts of action that trigger strikes.
Hardware specifications:
-
Decoy YS25 size 12 hooks for suspending action
-
Decoy YS25 size 14 hooks for slow floating configuration
-
Decoy size 1 Light Game split rings
The Puffin Crank delivers bold presence, bottom contact control, and subtle yet effective attraction — making it a standout option for anglers targeting quality fish in shallow, dirty, or high-current environments.
